For this project, I worked as a boat electrician on a Haines 320 motor yacht located at Windsor Marina. Following a power outage at the marina, the owner began experiencing faults on the vessel’s 240V shore power system and requested a full inspection and repair of the onboard mains electrical setup. The work was carried out in accordance with ISO 13297 and the British Marine Code of Practice.
The Haines 320 is a well-regarded inland and coastal motor yacht, designed with comfort and extended cruising in mind. Maintaining a safe and dependable AC system is essential for battery charging, onboard appliances, and general day-to-day use aboard the vessel.
The initial stage of the project involved troubleshooting the yacht’s 240V electrical system following the marina outage. During inspection and testing, it became clear that the vessel’s mains battery charger had failed as a result of the power issue. A full safety check of the AC system was then completed, ensuring the shore power installation remained safe and compliant.
To restore reliable charging capability onboard, a new Victron Energy 30-amp three-way mains battery charger was installed and integrated into the yacht’s existing electrical system. The upgrade provided the owner with a dependable charging solution capable of supporting the vessel’s battery banks when connected to shore power.
