Electrical work undertaken • Fault-finding loss of electrics • Installation of LED lighting • Installation of dimmer switches • Installation of battery charger • Installation of shore-power.
Description Marine electrical work on this custom-build sailing motor yacht was carried out at Lady Bee Marina, Shoreham-by-Sea.
The owner initially reported an issue with the automatic bilge pump, which was only activating when the engine was running.
Troubleshooting revealed the underlying cause to be insufficient charging from the solar panel, leaving both the start and domestic batteries deeply discharged and beyond recovery. Both batteries were subsequently replaced.
To provide a long-term solution, I designed and installed a complete shore power charging system. This included a shore power inlet, battery charger, RCBO, and earth bonding to the engine block.
